Control System & Software

What control system does the SC-512L use?
The SC-512L operates on a customized version of MachPro. This architecture provides a modular and flexible control environment, allowing users to tailor the interface, expand functionality, and adapt the machine to a wide range of applications over time.

Size, Capacity & Travel

What is the weight of the machine?
  • SC-512L base model: approximately 220 lbs (99.79 kg)
  • Average Pro-Package shipment: approximately 475 lbs (215.5 kg)
What is the maximum part size the SC-512L can machine?
The SC-512L features a maximum swing diameter of 9.25 inches and a maximum swing over the cross slide of 5 inches. Maximum stock size is determined by swing capacity, tooling configuration, and overall setup.
What is the travel of the Z axis?
With the tailstock installed, the Z-axis travel is nearly 12 inches.
What is the maximum material size supported by the collet chuck?
The collet chuck can be adapted to accommodate material up to 1.125 inches (28.5 mm) in diameter.

Spindle, Motors & Performance

What is the spindle power rating?
The SC-512L is equipped with a 1.2 kW servo spindle motor, delivering consistent torque and precise speed control for demanding machining operations.
Does the machine have a full pass-through spindle?
Yes. The spindle features a 26 mm (approximately 1 inch) through-bore, allowing material to pass through for bar-fed operations.
Are turning and indexing performed by the same motor?
Yes. The 1.2 kW servo spindle motor is used for turning, indexing, milling, and drilling operations. This integrated approach provides flexibility for multi-operation machining without requiring additional drive systems.

CNC Capabilities & Features

What are the smallest threads possible on this machine?
Thread size depends on tooling, material, and setup. Specific minimum thread sizes will be application-dependent.
Can the live tool cut both radially and axially?
Yes. The live tool can be mounted in both the X and Z axes, allowing milling, drilling, and turning in a single setup.
How can I achieve the best surface finish on a part?
Surface finish is influenced by tooling selection, material type, speeds and feeds, machine rigidity, and overall setup. For best results, begin with the tool manufacturer’s recommended speeds and feeds, then fine-tune the parameters to optimize finish quality for your specific application.

Warranty & Support

Is there a warranty on the SC-512L?
